In the year 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it topped the charts for most streamed songs in just the space of six months. It was a blend of pop and reggaeton that attracted attention to Latin Music but also reggaeton. Billboard's Top 100 in 2015 had two songs that were mostly Spanish and in 2016 there were four. In the midst of Despacito's fame in the year 2017, there were 19 predominantly Spanish tracks that made the top 100. Then in 2020 it was 41. Justin Bieber re-mixed Despacito with an English version in the year 2017 and soon after famous artists started working together with reggaeton groups. Drake teamed with Bad Bunny for the production of MIA (2018) as well as Madonna collaborated on Medellin along with Maluma (2019). In the year 2020, a handful of reggaeton artists were expressing displeasure at its inclination towards mainstream, but a new generation, led by Rauw Alejandro, aimed to ensure that reggaeton was evolving. It was often associated with electronic dance, as well as other forms.
